Jaime Portela opened the bar that carries his name in 1983. For almost a decade, his son Jorge has been masterfully handling the mixing glass. Located on Gran Vía, very close to Sagrado Corazón and opposite the NH Villa de Bilbao, Jaime is one of those places that is part of the city’s identity.

A meeting point during Athletic matches, after the operas at the Euskalduna or at snack time. Its homemade vermouths, served with snacks from the hot aperitif bar, are legendary in Bilbao.

However, it is in the afternoon when Jorge displays all his magic. Jaime’s cocktails bring together the city’s best and brightest.

Leaving Bilbao without sipping one of Jorge’s evening drinks is like leaving without having seen the Suspension Bridge.
