Txakoli, Biscayan identity

Vineyards have been present throughout the entire geography of Biscay for centuries. From the hills stretching towards the sea to the inland valleys.

That is why the different wineries offer unique peculiarities and character, despite the fact that they mainly opt for the Hondarribi Zuri and Hondarribi Beltza varieties.

You may find producers, some of which offer accommodation, guided tours or tastings, from the very hillsides surrounding Bilbao, to Zalla, Balmaseda and Gordexola, via Bakio, Zamudio, Derio or Lezama.

It is worth mentioning Larrabetzu, where the prestigious Gorka Izaguirre winery is located.

Some of the other municipalities with wineries are Gernika, Busturia, Muxika, Kortezubi, Elorrio, Amorebieta-Etxano, Euba, Durango and Abadiño, as well as Mendexa, Lekeitio, Markina and the spectacular town of Orduña.
