Artxanda Funicular
A public service that has become a tourist attraction in Bilbao

This century-old funicular takes you from the heart of Bilbao to the summit of Artxanda in just 3 minutes, offering spectacular panoramic views of the city. Discover Bilbao from a unique perspective!
About to turn 110 years old, the Artxanda Funicular is much more than a public service that connects in a few minutes the centre of the city with an enormous green area.
Artxanda is one of the most emblematic places in Bilbao. It provides a wide variety of leisure activities that are different from what you can find in the big city of Bilbao. The first must-see is the Artxanda viewpoint, which offers a complete panoramic view of Bilbao from the Txorierri valley all the way to the airport. It is like having at your feet a three-dimensional map of the city, the course of the estuary and a good part of the hills and mountains of the Territory. On a sunny day, you will see the sea beyond Santurce. It is an unmissable visit.
Of course, in Funi.
Don’t miss the opportunity to see Bilbao from above. Get on the ‘Funi’.
In addition, those who wish can start hiking routes, walk along the different cantilevered wooden paths —with exceptional views—, or visit the vestiges of the famous defensive system known as the Iron Belt of Bilbao.
The restaurants in Artxanda are well known for the high quality of their products and their preparation. These establishments generally serve traditional Basque cuisine. Txakoli Simón, for instance, is very famous for its grilled beef txuletas.
The Funi has its lower access in a neighbourhood, Castaños, which is reached by crossing the well-known Zubi Zuri. Castaños maintains the idiosyncrasy of the ‘traditional Bilbao’.
And, within a moment, its clean and silent carriage will allow you to disembark at the top of the hill.
Do not miss it.
