This autumn, we invite you to breathe in nature and to retake that pure and special connection with these 10 suggestive plans

1. Visit the Gorbeia Natural Park

This historic Natural Park is a place full of life, culture and history of our land. Its unique location, between Alava and Bizkaia, makes this mountain can be traveled by different routes and each of them makes it particular.

For the more adventurous, there is also the option to complement your visit to this Natural Park with other activities: hiking trails, kayaking, horseback riding, golf in the mountains, and so on.

2. Guided tour of the Oma Forest

The Oma Forest, a land art expression also known as the ‘painted forest’, the work of Agustín Ibarrola is a very appropriate plan to enjoy this autumn.

This work of land art, located in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, blends painting with nature. Since 2023 it can be visited in its new location at Basobarri, next to the original forest, in Kortezubi. Entry is free, but you must book in advance on the Biscay Provincial Council website (bizkaia.eus). You can explore it on your own or join the Saturday guided tours: at 11:00 in Spanish and at 12:30 in Basque.

3. Visit to the Urkiola Nature Park

This visit in such a peaceful natural setting, with views of Durangaldea, is the perfect opportunity for an educational, cultural and sporting break.

You will learn about the mysterious Basque mythology, visit the Urkiola Sanctuary, climb Mount Anboto and along the way you will be accompanied by wild animals of the area including foxes, wild boars, vultures and more.

4. Shepherd for a day in Urkiola

If you appreciate our customs and want to live an enriching and interesting experience, you can book your pastoral experience in Urkiola where you can discover the most rural Basque life with ‘Shepherd for a day’.

In this last activity you will learn about Idiazabal cheese and you will have contact with the animals that make it possible for us to enjoy this gastronomic treasure.

5. Visit to Alluitz Natura

SitLocated on the slopes of Alluitz mountain, in the Urkiola Natural Park, Alluitz Natura offers alternative workshops in contact with animals. In the same way you will learn in a rural environment about Basque customs.

It is a very appetizing plan to do in this season of the year and ideal to do with the family.

6. Otzarreta beech forest

Few places capture the Basque autumn better than this beech forest in Gorbeia Natural Park. Its twisted beech trunks by the stream turn ochre and red, creating one of the most photographed spots in the Basque Country.

Take the N-240 to the Barazar pass and, from there, a track to the car park. The walk is short and easy, and you can extend it to the Saldropo wetland.

7. Tree huts

The stay in the well-known tree cabin apartments, located in Zeanuri, will make you live a unique and very particular experience in full contact with nature.

8. Belaze baserriko Zaporeak in Elorrio

In this Biscayan municipality you also can learn about the traditional Basque rural world that characterises us so much.In this visit to the Zenitaldekoa farmhouse, you will learn about the work of the baserritarras, you will have contact with the animals and you will taste the real Basque gastronomy.

9. Green Belt of Vitoria-Gasteiz

An ideal place to disconnect and enjoy a relaxing environment close to the city.

This route that surrounds the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz is a set of natural parks of high ecological value that allows you to do various sporting activities such as cycling or running.
