From Elorrio to the Plentzia estuary in five steps

At the Elorrio exit, take the Bilbao-Durango direction. It is worth stopping at Axpe-Atxondo, in the shadow of Amboto, the magic mountain.

From there it is only a few kilometres to Amorebieta-Etxano, so keep an eye out for the signs to Gernika. Before you get to Gernika, follow the signs to Muxika.

The narrow, winding road passes through vineyards, farmhouses and woods. Stop in Morga, stretch your legs and take a breath.

Continue towards Mungia and you will pass Fruiz, with its old ironworks and curious basalt outcrop.

Once in Mungia, stroll through the town centre, visit Landetxo Goikoa, a 16th-century farmhouse declared a Cultural Asset, and Torrebillela, a 14th-century tower.

Enjoy the road to Plentzia, with its beach and bridge over the Butrón estuary, its picturesque old town, its small marina and promenade.
