Terraces with sea views in Bizkaia

As temperatures rise and days lengthen, seaside terraces become irresistible

Spring lifts the mist from the coast. The sea seems bluer. It settles down, as if tired of its own winter fury. And the sun begins to greet us. The days lengthen until they fade into a reddish twilight. The breeze is warm now.

Everything invites you to sit on a terrace overlooking the sea. There are many of them along the coast of Bizkaia. Some hide a good restaurant. Others boast drinks and a good atmosphere. There are some with fabulous breakfasts. And with barbecue.

GETXO

Let’s start with Fangaloka, in Azkorri (Getxo). Much more than just a terrace with sensational views of the sea: chill out, sports, gastronomy, drinks, beer…

Also in Getxo, Iluna bar; in the Old Port of the same town, Itxasbide and Satistegui, and soon the Aixerrota mill will open.

The terraces of the Tamarises Izarra cafeteria and restaurant deserve special mention.

BARRIKA

In Barrika you will find Golfo Norte and El Cantábrico.

SOPELANA

In Sopela: Indian, Solito, El Peñón and Hotel Goizalde.

PLENTZIA

Plentzia, Kaieder and Txurrua.

BAKIO

In Bakio, Eneperi and Galerna.

BERMEO

In Bermeo, the century-old Torrontero tavern, next to the Ercilla tower and overlooking the port; and the Batun-Batun.

URDAIBAI

In Mundaka, Portuondo with sensational fish and sensational views. The Ekoetxe Torremadariaga cultural centre has a magnificent terrace in the heart of Urdaibai. As does the Kanala Gizarte Etxea Tavern, in Kanala. On Laga beach, in Ibarrangelu, Toki-Ala. On Laga beach, in Ea, Atxarre Taberna.

In the unique town of Elantxobe, Mentrame Taberna, Bar Santi, Ogoñope and Kraken, a hamburger restaurant with a view.

MENDEXA

On Karraspio beach, Mendexa —although everyone thinks it is Lekeitio—, the Taberna Patxon, right on the beach.

LEKEITIO

Is a must. In Lekeitio, Talako.

ONDARROA

Next to Ondarroa beach, Moby Dick.

MUSKIZ

And at the other end of the coast, to the west, La Maloka shines next to La Arena beach in Muskiz.

There are many more places with sea views. But these are a good selection. Visit them and enjoy.
