Sailing takes off in the Abra

The Biscayan waters of the Abra are the scene of great sailing events in the Bay of Biscay this summer.

The Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club schedules in its wide calendar such outstanding events as the XXXVII Campeonato de Bizkaia de Cruceros-Lurauto in which the best crews of the fleets of the surrounding area participate, as well as the Gitana Cup or, in August, the Getxo-Gijón Regatta.

From September onwards, it will be holding the Getxo-Castro Cup or the Final Series of the booming J80 class.

In addition, in the dinghy sailing specialty, the II Fhimasa-Juan Manuel Alonso Allende Trophy of the Snipe class (September 3 and 4); or the XXXII Fashion Outlet Trophy – José Luis de Ugarte Sailing School (September 24 and 25).

The main activity of the Real Club Marítimo del Abra – Real Sporting Club, which will turn 125 years old in 2023, as will the Athletic Club, is organising ragatta races during most weekends of the year in waters of the Abra.

Since it was stablished, this Biscayan Club, located in Las Arenas (Getxo), began to organise international and national regattas and became a reference.

One only has to stroll along the left bank, in the case of Santurtzi and Portugalete, or at different points on the right bank, Getxo or Sopela, to enjoy the beautiful image of sailing competitions.
