A BURST OF CULTURE

Summer opens doors and windows. It unfurls parasols on the sand. And it invites you to sit in the cool shade of an oak tree.Whether you’re here out of curiosity or in search of Bizkaia’s outstanding cuisine, just go with the flow. You’ll find concerts, large and small, featuring pop, rock, folk, classical music and jazz everywhere you look. The vast majority are free. You’ll come across traditional Basque sporting events, pelota matches and fixed-bench rowing regattas. You might stumble upon a pilgrimage led by trikitilaris leading the way. Or txistularis playing in the shade of the portico of the most unexpected chapel. These are all expressions of a people’s culture and identity. Let yourself be enriched.

And, even if you’re just coming to see the Guggenheim, be sure to visit the Fine Arts Museum, the recently reopened Euskal Museoa, the Itsasmuseum, the new Alkar Contemporary gallery, the Peace Museum, the Euskal Herria Museum next to the Tree of Gernika, La Encartada, Torre Loizaga and its impressive and unique collection of Rolls-Royces, the Athletic Club Museum, the Arkeologi Museoa and many others. You’ll find several in every city and region across Bizkaia. Not to mention monuments and other places of interest.

There’s one just a few minutes’ walk from where you are right now. And there’s a cultural event on, either right now or in a little while. Just ask around.

And relish it.
