A land for autumn

Autumn is the time of year when Bizkaia shines the brightest. It lacks the vigour of summer, the melancholy of winter or the eternal hope of spring. But this is a land for autumn. The forests redden, ashamed of the excesses of August, and begin to show their bare bark in the mist. The sea loves the cliffs passionately. The sunrises herald the snow that never comes. The countryside smells of mushrooms. And the cobbled streets smell of burnt wood, roasted corn and bean stew. Football is played under the sirimiri, pelota fills the pelota courts, cyclo-cross paints mud jerseys and sailing boats compete under the suspension bridge. Opera, jazz, accordion symphony, rock and roll, and the curtains of the theatres go up and down all the time. Museums unveil their new exhibitions. And shops display their collections.

It’s time to lift the collar of your jacket and walk on the neon colours reflected in the asphalt of the streets.

Bilbao and Bizkaia are more beautiful than ever in autumn.
