Santurtzi, the essence of marine life

The seafaring atmosphere of the fishing port of Santurtzi is one of the hallmarks of Biscay. So much it forms part of the popular songs.

he town has made an effort to take care of its essence. For this reason, it has kept the antique Casa de Venta de pescado, which houses the fishermen’s guild, with its auction room and fish market. The inshore boats still unload their holds there.

The Museum of the Sea, Santurtzi Itsas Museoa, interprets the traces and history of the port. Its dramatised tours conclude with an old-school fish auction.

Look for a place where you can try the typical grilled sardines. Or a tasty tuna cooked with txakoli.
