Running calendar in Bizkaia

Bizkaia is a runner’s paradise. Its cities and landscapes offer all kinds of running routes, from flat walks in Bilbao to challenging mountain trails. Check out the calendar of events such as the Bilbao Night Running Fest and join the vibrant running culture in Bizkaia.

Bicycles have crowded the roads, paths and promenades of Bizkaia for over a century. Every day. And cycling races, every weekend. But in recent years, pedal-powered machines have been overtaken by those who go running. Runners of all types, ages, fitness levels and appearances dash around a territory that invites them to do so. Our cities, with Bilbao as a good illustration, offer trails, promenades and paths to suit everyone. From completely flat asphalt paths to forest trails.

Running events fill the region’s calendar. Marathons, half marathons, fun runs, mountain races, mile races. Both day and night events. Charitable, activist, recreational. They usually entail a day of entertainment in the start or finish area, such as the Burdin Hesiko Mendi Lasterketa, a trail race held in Gamiz-Fika every third week of June.
