The book “De Bizkaia de toda la vida”

A book to discover the real imaginary of the land beneath your feet
Abook with brilliant texts by Jon Uriarte and wonderful illustrations by Tomás Ondarra that expresses the imagination of the people who live in the land you are visiting.
It does this by choosing 65 topics, each of which represents Bizkaia. For example, the Tree of Gernika, the Portugalete Bridge or cod in pil-pil sauce. The idea is to create an emotional connection with the landscapes and the people.
In several chapters, the authors take us on a journey from the caves of Santimamiñe and Pozalagua to the unique sculpture of Mikeldi and the Oma Forest, transformed into a magical place by the imagination and paintbrushes of Agustín Ibarrola.
They talk about the lighthouses of Matxitxako and Santa Catalina, the mythical rock of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, the much-visited Gorbea Cross, built a century ago with iron from the Altos Hornos de Vizcaya, and the sanctuaries of Urkiola, Ziortza and Urduña.
But it is not just about objects, dishes or places. It also tells of the spectacular dance of the Kaxarranka in Lekeitio and the custom of the choirs in Santa Águeda. Those who read this book will find out what the “gasolino” is and what the “azulito” were.
The aim is to discover Bizkaia: its traditions, culture and local heritage in a book that revives history and lifelong customs.
The publication, published by BAO with the support of the Department of Transport, Mobility and Tourism of the Bizkaia Provincial Council, is not only to be discovered, but also to be remembered.
It is available in bookshops.
